Introducing Family Room, an LGBTQ+ Wine Brand Rooted in Joy

Wine has always been about connection

I learned early that connection is built over long nights of conversation, music, card games, celebration, the occasional cursing, and toasts handed down from generation to generation. And I understood wine was powerful in that way: that a glass of something deep and delicious could bring people together, give them permission to slow down and drop anchor into the moment.

The Family Room

Wine brought to our family the same things that the family room did. A space to build community, to celebrate, to rest, to empower, to plan. A moment away from the world. To marry the two seemed obvious to me, especially as a Queer woman, to whom safe community spaces and chosen family are immeasurably important.

That's what Family Room represents. A celebration of chosen family, friendship, and the simple ritual of pouring a glass of wine to honor one another.

Why LGBTQ+ representation in wine matters

I've worked in the wine industry for most of my career (minus a short stint in a brewery… I mean, I'm a lesbian… it was a must), and while I continued to fall in love with wine culture, I couldn't help but notice a huge hole. I didn't see my LGBTQ+ community being represented, much less celebrated, in the space I loved so much.

As a wine lover on a budget, I wanted a delicious, affordable bottle I could actually find at the store and feel good knowing my purchase supported a Queer-owned wine brand.

I created the wine I wanted so badly to drink

That delicious bottle you stock up on, just to always have. The one you bring to a dinner party because you know it always hits. The wine you pour as the pasta burns because you're too busy dancing in the kitchen with your partner. And the wine that authentically represents us and empowers the Queer community.

Introducing the Family Room Grant Program

A portion of our revenue will be used to fund grants awarded to LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs and founders. It's our mission to use wine to build strength in our community by investing in other Queer-owned businesses.

But first, we need to bottle our inaugural wines. Keep your eye out for our Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc hitting shelves. Our first stop is Georgia, and we'll soon be available online, too.

We're just getting started, and we're excited to build this community one bottle, one table, and one celebration at a time.
